SEO for Blog

Whether you like it or not, search engine optimization for most bloggers is one of the most significant sources of traffic. When you approach it the right way, traffic from natural search will feel like a bonus.

If you want to build a successful blog with real solid content, one that people would link to voluntarily, you should take the whitehat SEO path.
Some people argue that it can be hard to determine between whitehat SEO or blackhat SEO.

They are right, sometimes there is only a thin line that separates them both. Search engine
algorithms change on a regular basis and no where we could find complete information about what are considered totally whitehat SEO.

After all, despite SEO may not be a rocket science, still a lot of Phd’s are working in Google and other search engines as well. That sounds as complex as rocket science already to me.
It is important to realize that search engines — or Google in this particular case — like to return relevant search results for their users.

That means webmasters or bloggers who create content that the audience wants to read or consume naturally should rank higher. Often they are not, that’s why you need promotion, besides search engines are working on it too.

In other words, despite how complex it may sound, you don’t need to be a master of SEO to be able to start enjoying traffic from those search engines.
If you stick to the basic principles, chances are better that you will be ranked on top of the search engine result pages (SERPs) and be there longer than if you try to be tricky.

Successful sites and blogs rely on many other factors, which will be covered partially in this concise guide. Most important of all is the blog’s audience.
If you stumble upon a blog while searching the Web, you not only want great information, but also information that answers the question you have in mind when typing your keyword into the search engine.

Besides that, you also want to be able to navigate and find the related information quickly and easily. That depends on good linking structure and design. So those two things matter as well.
There are certainly more than those points, but they should get across the idea why you should pay attention to the other blog building activities too as they are closely related to search engine optimization.

What comprises the preliminary steps?
Keyword research. While it is nice to be able to rank first on any keyword in a week, most likely that won’t happen. Not only because SEO takes time, but also because the competitiveness of the keyword. Keyword research is about identifying the keyword phrases your target market uses to find information or product. With proper research, you’ll be able to find the long tail keywords, which have lower search volume but easier to rank.

They are often more targeted too. Model your blog content around that approach.
Competitive analysis. This involves looking at the search result and determine why pages that are in the top 10 are there.
Although you can’t possibly reverse engineer the algorithms entirely, current SEO allows you to do half-scientific guess of what’s going on. When you are on this, also take notes on the marketing and monetization models of each of the top blogs or sites.
Crawlable content structure.
Blog software makes this very easy and automatic. However, it is also necessary that you compartmentalize your content into multiple categories, or use core pages that represent main categories of the blog. You may divide content into tiered structure or use links to channel your linkage to a set of core pages.

Indexable content. Text is still the most indexable type of content. If you’d like your image to be found for specific keyword search, make sure you use the alt attribute accordingly when inserting image on your blog. Include transcript or summary of audio and video content if you post it on your blog. Use Flash sparingly.

Professional design. You don’t have to hire a professional blog designer if you don’t want to. A professional design means it is able to convey your brand and message. If you choose to use a free blog theme, at least modify it a bit to avoid looking like another blog. Make sure the blog theme designer knows about search engine optimization though, so your template uses the right html tags.

Branding. If possible, you want a domain name that automatically conveys your business or contains a keyword phrase. That helps a bit in SEO but also get across your business immediately your audience see it. Don’t sweat it though. Google is not searchengine.com but Google still makes it to the top in the search engine industry.

Promote Your Blog and Content
An engine without fuel is just like a lump of metal. While it is possible to build audience slowly just with superb content, your effort won’t be optimal.

There are successful bloggers who raise to the top not because of their content. They write average content but they expose themselves to the right audience.
With millions of blogs online, you have no choice but to make your blog and content stand out from the crowd.
The only way to do that is through promotion.
When it comes to promotion, a lot of bloggers hold themselves back because they think they have to pitch something. Instead of chasing your target audience you could make them come to you by providing informative substance. That’s what I call educational marketing.

An interesting thing about this is because you are already content producer, you will be able to leverage your content.

For instance, offer to be a guest blogger on other people’s blogs. Make use of what you know to gain audience. It is so easy because you are just like stealing traffic from other established blogs.
From the search engine standpoint, promotion is done to get a network of inbound links pointing back to your blog pages.
With the right anchor text in the links, search engines do their magic to determine the rankings of your pages, along with the on-page optimization and other factors.

How To Launch Your Site

If you’ve ever started a Wordpress blog before, you know how it feels. Its exciting to launch a new blog. Most of you jump when you get that inspiration and start your new blog right away. Slow down. You need to prepare well in advance before launching your blog. Here are some tips on how to make your blog launch successful.

• Map Your Goals
Think. Ask yourself why you are starting the blog. What are your goals? Do you want to make money? How much time are you going to spend on your blog? Ask yourself all these questions. Goals in your blog are very important for achieving milestones. Just breakdown bigger goals into smaller ones and challenge yourself to accomplish them within a period of time. Its better to write them down in a notebook or something. Take some time to write some articles for your blog well in advance.

• Blog Design
The blog design is the most important aspect of a blog. It has to look attractive and professional. Take some time to check out good theme or get a custom theme designed for your blog. Get all the logos, gravatars, favicons, banners ready so that you can promote your blog effectively. A well designed blog stands out to the visitor.

• Use a Domain Parking Theme
For your blog,it is best to install Wordpress as soon as you get the domain. If you just leave your domain as it is, your domain company would will turn it into an ad farm. Install theLaunchpad theme for Wordpres. It is a domain parking theme that informs the visitor that the blog is about to launch soon and allows them to subscribe via RSS and email. Its pretty nice and professional too.

• Networking
Use networking to get traffic for your blog when it launches. If you’re an active participant in some of the social media sites, then it could be a big plus for you. Although I’m suggesting you to use sites like Twitter and Plurk to promote your site, I don’t recommend using them solely for promoting your blog since that would look spammy. I also recommend using forums for promoting your blog.
I also found out that commenting on other blogs is a great way to promote your site. Remember, the blogosphere is a big community. No blogger is an island. Connect with other bloggers, read and comment on their blogs and they will surely return the favor.

• Contests
You know that bloggers hold contests to promote their blogs. So why not hold one before you launch the blog too? After all, it only makes your blog more popular. You can hold a small contest and give away a small prize, lets say $20 cash, one among those who subscribe to your blog so that it creates some buzz. You can use forums to spread the word about your contest.

• Conclusion
If all this sounds like nonsense, let me sum up everything you need to know - Plan well and launch your blog in a professional way. Leverage the power of social media sites to promote your site or blog. Impress your visitors and convert them into loyal readers.

Making Money On The Internet, easy

Maybe you've heard people say that you can get rich on the Internet. But, if you are serious about making money on the Internet, remember, it's not a get rich overnight business. Internet success takes time, effort and knowledge. There's no easy "get rich quick" method, so you need to spend the time for building income stream from your Web site.

You can find many kinds of Web sites that have the aim, directly or indirectly, to make money. Apart from the online retailers who are using their sites to directly make money, you can find many Web sites with various moneymaking features.
Here's an excellent page describing realistic ways of making money on the Internet from your personal Web site - Work From Home. No "get rich quick" schemes. Just proven, reliable ways to to build an online business or use a Web site to expand your offline one.

The basis for building serious income is the high traffic. If your site only gets a few hundred visitors per month, as most of personal Web sites, you'll unlikely make more than pocket change.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are some ways of making money on the Internet from your personal Web site...
BannersThey were one of the first ways of making money from hobby Web sites, however they are not so popular now since most surfers don't even look at them. In fact, the click-through rate (the percentage of visitors who actually click on a banner) has steadily dropped, from around 5% 4 years ago to less than 0.5% now.

In the Traffic-Building volume of Make Your Site SELL! 2002 (the free ebook describing all possible ways of making money on the Internet), banners are called #1 "Time and Money Wasters." Save yourself months of poorly spent time. Read this essential manual first.
If you have highly relevant, cleverly designed banners, you can beat the odds. However, you need relatively high traffic to actually make more than pocket change. In fact, most banner advertising companies prefer to only pay for actual sales (even click throughs are no longer attractive, since many people click through because they are paid to, and not because they intend to buy anything).

FreebiesUnder this category are things such as free lotto tickets and various games where you can win prizes. Often, these are implemented as pop-ups and are much more annoying than banners.
Affiliate programsThey pay you a percentage of the sales you generate for them, or for each visitor you send. This is one of the best ways of making money on the Internet. You don't have to spend time and energy creating your own product. And some of them pay 50% commission.

See Affiliate programs for more information on building income from affiliate programs.
Google AdSenseThis is one of the easiest ways of making money on the Internet for small and medium sites by displaying relevant, text-based ads from Google AdWords (Google's own advertising program) and receiving a share of the pay-per-click payment.

Other toolsThere are many tools that can help you make some pretty big commissions without your visitors even realizing that you're building income from their visits.
For example, several search engines will pay you a few cents per search made from your Web site. If a few hundred people use your search box, you'll earn a few dollars a day - not bad for a few minutes of cut & paste a small line of code within the HTML of your Web page.

Selling a Product or ServiceThis is an obvious way of making money on the Internet. To succeed in it, you have to succeed at three points...
Develop a great product that is of interest to others on the Web.Write a professional Web site designed to sell.Attract targeted customers to the site.

Most profitable keywords

Keyword Cost Per Click

Every page has a total number of words. So, for example, let's say your web page has a word total of 250, not counting all the HTML code ( roughly 1/3 to 1/2 of your web page will be the code - so just deduct that number of words from the total ).

Use a Word processing program to find out your total word count. Paste the HTML source code of the page into a blank document, then choose File> Properties >Statistics >Word Count ( your programs help file will give specific instructions for viewing page statistics ).

Let's move on. If you are optimizing that page for a single keyword, you need to figure out how many times that particular word is repeated within that 250 word total.

Manually scan the page and count every repetition of your keyword. Your Word program should also have an Edit and replace function. Paste in the code and then type in the keywords in both the edit box and the replace box. The program will replace each occurrence of the word with itself...and produce a total count for the number of repeats.

Let's assume for this exercise that you have used that keyword 10 times on your page. To calculate the keyword density - take that figure and divide it by the total number of words on your page. So in this case 10 divided by 250 = .04

Keyword density is always referred to as a percentage of the total word count for the page. So now you need to multiply .04 by 100 to get the percentage figure.

Your calculation would look like this;

.04 x 100 = 4%

The page has a keyword density of 4%.

For effective optimizing that will boost your pages into the Top 20 spots on the major search engines you are aiming for a keyword density of between 2 - 5%.

What you have just been shown is about as simple as it gets for working out the keyword density of a web page. To recap then the formula looks like this;

10 divided by 250 = .04 x 100 = 4% -or-
keyword count divided by total word count x 100 = keyword density in %

To save time, don't stress too much over exactly matching the density of your page to the Top listed pages on the search engines.

Algorithms fluctuate constantly at the major search engines so it is much simpler to optimize a few pages for different weighting or densities. A few pages at 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5% keyword density will mean at least one of your pages should rank well on a major search engine.

why internet marketers FAIL

1. They Don’t Have a Plan: Many of the same actions that are required to be a success offline apply to the online business world as well. Just as it is important to have a marketing and business plan for a brick and mortar business, the same is true for an internet marketing business. You need to have a plan. It will keep you focused and provide direction for your efforts. If you do not have a plan and have no idea what you are going to be doing from day to day, then you will likely be in trouble.

2. They Don’t Work That Plan: It is one thing to have a plan. It is another thing to take action. If you are a planner and not a doer, then you will fail. It is very easy and even quite fun to come up with plans. However, if you never give them any feet, then you are wasting your time and brain power. Instead, commit to putting your plan into action everyday. Don’t let fear or laziness curtail your dreams. You will regret it later on.

3. They Work Only When They Feel Like It: There is some dirty myth that if you work online, you can work whenever you want to and can skip out on working whenever you don’t feel like it. While this is true, it doesn’t mean that you will make money if you run your business this way. The same holds true offline. Sure, you can go to work when you want and play hookie if you feel like it but the result will likely be the loss of your job and income. This true even if you work online. You don’t have to work, but in most cases you won’t make any money.

4. They Give Up Easily: The business world is not for quitters. I believe many people give up on their internet businesses so easily because they underestimate the amount of work that will be required. They fall for the “make $100,000 in 6 months, working only 30 minutes a day” advertisements. These are obviously a bunch of bunk but people don’t find that out until after they have tried and failed with these systems. If people had realistic expectations, they might be willing to hang in there a little longer.

5. They Don’t Track Their Advertising: Not tracking your advertising is one of the biggest mistakes that you can make. If you have no idea where your sales are coming from, you will be unable to ramp up advertising at those places that are making you money and will continue to waste money on unprofitable campaigns. To avoid this, be sure to track all of your web pages and ads. You will be so thankful that you did.

Ten ways to make extra money

1. Squidoo and Get Paid
Squidoo is hot. Thousands of people have jumped on Squidoo and created their own "lens" (free web page). They write short articles or posts about things that interest them or about something they want to share. However, many of these people don't understand that they can make money with Squidoo articles. Squidoo costs nothing and it doesn't require a web site or any technical skills.

2. Blog for Money
Web logs ("blogs") are everywhere. Everyone's doing it — writing about things that interest them. It might be personal or it might be about a love for gardening, electronic games, a musical group, or a sport. Although you can set up your own blogging website, free blog sites are easily available. Many people blog but few realize that they can "monitize" their writings by including ads on their site. Here's more about blogging for money.

3. Sell Your Expertise
Many people don't realize they have knowledge that may be of interest to other people who are willing to pay for some of that knowledge. Your special expertise may be something you've learned from your work, schooling, or simply from your interest in a hobby. Creating and selling an online ebook is one way you can share that knowledge with others — and make money. It's easier than you might think.

4. Text Link Ads
There are a number of search companies, such as Google and Yahoo, who display paid ads on their web sites when visitors perform searches. Advertisers pay these companies a bid fee for each time an ad is clicked by a visitor. Popular search terms can demand a high cost per click. Search companies also make these same ads available to web site owners, and share the ad revenue. Google has the most popular program, called Adsense. For more details, see Online Ads Make Money.

5. Sell Stuff on eBay
Sell goods on eBay - antiques, books, collectibles, car parts, and more. I know this is pretty obvious, but many people overlook this method of making money online. eBay is the world's largest auction sales site. Because of this, it's possible to sell just about anything to an international customer base. eBay has created an entire new range of business opportunities for ordinary people. For more details see How to Sell on eBay.

6. Sell Other People's Stuff on eBay
There is an eBay affiliate program that's taking the web by storm at the moment. It's a great program called "Build A Niche Store" (or BANS as it's nicknamed) which enables you to profit from this hugely under-exploited money-making opportunity by building eBay affiliate websites at a few clicks of a button. It costs $97 but most people who have purchased it have made their money back, plus much more, within a month or two. This is NOT a scam. In fact, when you purchase the program you also get access to their user discussion forum where you'll see story after story of real people who have been successful. Best of all, they tell you how they did it.

7. Create your Own Money-Making Web Site
One of the best and easiest ways to get started on creating an online business is using Yahoo! Small Business Solution. They provide all the online help and tools to let you completely build your business from designed a great looking site, to processing online payments. Thousands of people have used the service and been successful.

Another approach to building a money-making web site is to get a cheap site hosting service such as GoDaddy.com and buy a cheap "script" to create your site. A script is the software that automatically builds everything you need to get the site running. A company called 7DollarSecrets sells such a guide and script for an unbelievable $7. Along with a free PayPal account, you can be up and running – and making money – almost immediately. And here's an incredible product that reveals a method for getting traffic to your site quickly.

8. Help Sell Others' Products
Use free affiliate programs to collect generous commissions on products you promote from your own simple web site. Most Internet Service Providers (ISPs), such as Earthlink, Comcast, and many others, offer members free web sites that can be used to promote other people's products or services on your own site. This is a free service that most people either waste or overlook as a way to make money on the Internet. For more details see how affiliate programs pay cash.

9. Buy Wholesale - Sell Retail - Without a Web Site
There are numerous types of products available from web-based companies who let you create a custom mini-store on their web site to help them sell their products or services. You decide which of their products you want in your mini-store, which you can advertise or promote in any way you want. For example, you might design a T-shirt or a funny bumper sticker. When a customer buys one of your products, you receive the difference between wholesale price and retail price, or you receive a commission. For more details see this article, Buy Wholesale, Sell Retail.

10. Market a Business on the Web
If you already sell a product or service, or are thinking of starting a home-based business, the Internet is the greatest advertising and promotional venue in the world. You can get exposure for your business that you wouldn't dream of getting from advertising in local newspapers, magazines, or on TV. The catch is that it takes some work, knowledge, and time to get your web site noticed and ranking in the search engines. The secret is "search engine optimization (SEO) techniques" which is the term used to describe special techniques used to get a web site listed and ranked highly in search engines.

How search engine works

Get on the top of major search engines:

1. Use META tags.

Most search engine will look inside META tags in your web page. Here is the example of how to use meta tags.

meta name="description" content="How to promote your web site."
meta name="keywords" content="announcing web site, web submission, web promote, internet promotions, submit"

These META tags should be put in head head. In "description", put the brief description of your page. In "keywords", list the keywords that you think your visitors will find your site by typing those keywords. You can separate each keywords or description by using comma (,) as shown above.
2. Page Title

Infoseek will use your title as the priority in their search process. Name your title carefully. Try thinking about what keywords your visitors will type to find your page. Yahoo also uses page title and the description that you submit to search.
3. Contents of your page.

Some search engines such as Excite will not read META tag but it will look at the content of your site. If you use image map, please make sure that you also have words as an alternative.
4. Don't repeat the same keywords more than 5 times in META tag.

Lycos, will ban your page (by placing it down the list or not listing it) if they find that you are repeating words to improve the ranking.
5. Make sure that there are keywords in 3 places.
Make sure that there are keywords in 3 places: META tags, page title, and contents of your page.

Ways to Google Up

If you want to get the attention of your target audience, whether you’re in an executive job search or trying to build business, you have to position yourself right in front of them online.

Most recruiters and hiring managers are Googling candidates and making decisions based on what they find, before they’ll even consider talking with you.

I already summed up the importance of monitoring, tracking, fixing, and increasing your online presence to accelerate your search in Is Your Online Identity Sabotaging Your Executive Job Search?

Now that you understand the need to proactively take charge of your online identity, here are some of the best ways to do it. These efforts have the added benefit of exponentially building your network, boosting your credibility, and positioning you as an expert in your field.

These marketing efforts are free except for two that are relatively low-cost. Some take no time to roll out, some take a little time to develop and put out there. I can tell you from personal experience, purposefully building my own web presence, they all bring in great results, pretty quickly.

Remember to keep all of your communications and efforts on-brand and relevant to your areas of expertise, keeping in mind that your mission is to put yourself directly in front of the people you want to know about you.

1. Regularly self-Google. Keep track of how many results come up when you search “your name” and what they look like. The number of results and relevance can literally change from moment to moment. As you start incorporating the things I suggest here, monitor how they affect your search results and keep doing the things that work.

2. Set up a Google Alerts account for “your name” and other relevant search terms. Google sends you an email whenever your name or other terms you provide are newly published online. Find out when, where, and how people are talking about you.

3. Purchase the domain name for “yourname.com” (or as close as you can get to your actual name). This one costs a little bit – about $7-10 a year. You may not know what to do with your domain name now, or use it right away, but you’ll need it in the not-too-distant future.

You should be thinking about launching a blog or website (see 6 and 7 below). Grab your domain name before someone else does.

4. Create an on-brand e-signature for email, business cards, etc. Write a brand-charged tagline to briefly describe you. Along with your contact information, include your website/blog URL and links to your online social networking profiles (see 5, 6, and 7 below). Lead people directly to your accurate, branded online information.

5. Join appropriate online social/business networking sites (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc.). Recruiters and hiring manager tell me they routinely troll LinkedIn membership for candidates. Brand and power up your profile to attract attention. Cut and paste chunks of your branded executive resume into appropriate spots. Start connecting and tapping into the hidden job market.

6. Start blogging. Easily one of the most powerful ways to increase search results and visibility, cultivate community/networking, and build credibility. Search engines love blogs because the content is relevant and ever-expanding.

For more on blogging and links to two master bloggers, see my post Build a Blog to Build a Better Network.

Contribute several times a week to your own blog, guest blog on relevant blogs, and/or comment on relevant blogs. To build community and your network, refer and link to other relevant blogs in your posts. To direct more eyeballs to your own blog, remember to include a link to it in your other online marketing efforts wherever you can.

7. Launch your website and online career portfolio. Make it easy for people researching you to find everything you want them to know about you in one online location they can get to with a single click. Include all your career marketing materials – executive resume, case studies, achievement summary, leadership initiatives, career bio, etc.

Here’s where “yourname.com” comes into play. It’s the perfect destination to house all your materials. Your own designated website/portfolio costs money through a registrar, but VisualCV offers a pretty nifty free Web portfolio product.

8. Write book reviews for Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc. Set up an account and create another online branded profile to attract attention. Your reviews immediately begin spreading and popping up on other online bookseller’s sites, further increasing your search results and visibility.

9. Get involved with professional associations. Choose sites that attract the people you need to get in front of. Participate in their online forums and blogs; present teleseminars/webinars to position yourself as an expert; and/or publish articles, tip sheets, white papers, etc.

10. Share your expertise on major online forums. Yahoo! Answers, Yahoo Groups, Google Groups, LinkedIn Q&A, Wiki Answers are just some of the possibilities. Joining discussions is a great way to make connections and position yourself as a niche expert.

Tips to promote your site

1. Write and submit articles. It is a classic, but it works. This will be indefinite traffic stuck in the search engines for you.

2. Write quality unique articles, not articles that are rehashed or provide no insight to readers, which is a huge problem these days. ..

3. Write and submit press releases, think prweb after you do one.

4. Write and ping blog entries. Always make sure to link back to your website with your blog posts. Try making multiple blogs and have them all link back to one main site.

5. Make sure your website is listed in some site

6. Advertise your website in the appropriate categories at Craigslist. Try posting your ads in the most populated cities in the world.

7. If a niche related forum that you frequently visit allows signatures, then make sure to add your website url in there.

8. Make sure to view related products on Amazon.com. You can try and take some customers from your competitors here by providing your own url if the product is similar. Review websites in your niche on Alexa to try to take some of their traffic by including a reference back to your site.

9. Review some related products on epinion.

10. If you purchase a product that you actually like, then feel free to give an individual respect when respect is due and leave a testimonial. You should be able to get some traffic from that website if your testimonial is left with a url.

11. Whenever you send an email to someone, always add your website url as a signature.

12. Keep updating content on your websites/blogs… try at least once per week.

13. Tag blog posts at social bookmarking sites, especially at http://del.icio.us/. .

14. Add photos to your blog with appropriate keywords.

15. Tag blog photos at Flickr.

16. Politely ask your readers to subscribe to your rss feeds.

17. Try coining your own term. Might want to trademark it if you smell that it will become popular.

18. Encourage readers to comment on your blogs.

19. Include translation for your websites/blogs, especially in Chinese.

20. Do not be boring; write about something that a wide select of people would want to know about.

21. Make sure to edit your writing (unlike what I m doing).

22. Comment on other related blogs.

23. Make a custom 404-error page for your website. You can provide a link back to your main website or even try to monetize it by offering a related affiliate program within your niche.

24. Sponsor a charity, most charities will link back to your website, and you are also doing a good deed.

25. Sell an item on eBay as a charity auction. Most charities will link back to both your auction and your main website.

26. Start a publicity campaign, do something that individuals in your niche will take note of.

27. Brand your website with a logo and a slogan/catch phrase. Think IBM.

28. Hold a crazy contest that people in your niche will talk about. This will equal more links and traffic to your website.

29. Build a tool that individuals in your niche will love and enjoy. Then give it away for free. If the tool is helpful, then you will get quality one-way links to your website.

30. Contact small newsletters sources offline and submit articles to them.

31. Become friends with editors of an offline publication.

32. Give speeches offline. Start small and local. Also, do not forget to participate in toastmasters meetings in your area.

33. Have a GREAT product. All of the marketing/advertising in the world will do you NO good if your product is sub par.

34. Make something innovative. If you are selling information, what makes your content something you cannot get from the local bookstore, Barnes and noble or even eBay for that matter?

35. Is your product groundbreaking? Will you leave individuals with no choice but to talk about your product or service?

36. Are you selling something that wide groups of people want to know about but there is limited/scarce knowledge?

37. Write good content, if your writing is good then people will share it with their friends. In addition, webmasters will use it as content on their website with a reference back to your article, or at least they should.

38. Spark emotions. If you get people emotional about something then they will most likely talk about it.

39. Get a custom t-shirt made with your website url on it, and wear it often.

40. Build a list of subscribers. Your list is like a golden asset to you if utilized correctly.

41. Write tip articles, such as “Ten easy tips to blank-blank-blank.”

42. Buy traffic from the search engines by utilizing one of their PPC campaigns.

43. Open up a myspace account and find targeted friends so that you can promote your services to them. Do not spam people, myspace is cracking down on spammers and are starting to sue people.

44. Solicit a link from your local chamber of commerce.

45. Have an easy to remember domain name. If your domain name is too long or not memorable then people may forget your site.

46. Add a bookmark option to your website/blogs.

47. Purchase the misspelled versions of your domain name and have it redirect to your main one.

48. Use keywords in your image alt tags. For example,

49. Make sure to include appropriate keywords in your title tag, search engines show more prominence or importance to keywords here.

50. Place appropriate keywords in your anchor text when linking.

51. If you have a profile anywhere online, always include appropriate keywords and link back to your website.

52. Try to get links from websites within your niche with a high pr (pagerank). Some The more one-way links (inbound links/backlinks) you have to your website, the higher your pr will become. Pagerank is important because websites with higher prs tend to have a higher search results in Google. It is a no brainier that if you can get number one for a competitive keyword then you will have enough traffic that you can handle… oh by the way its all free targeted traffic to remind you. ..

53. Outsource grunt work. Time is in essence money…. you can hire individuals at freelance services to send emails, request JV proposals, or to answer questions from prospective or current customers.

54. Offer something for FREE. Abracadabra is not the magic word, FREE is. It is like a worm on a pole for a fish in the water…. its bait! Offer a free mini course or free ebook to help collect more subscribers. You can always offer a backend to monetize on this opportunity, such as an affiliate product for example. .

55. After someone orders from you offer a one-time offer that compliments your product. For example, if I offered a traffic ebook, then after the individual purchase it would make sense for me to offer a traffic conversion bonus for a limited time only.

56. Become the virus within your niche. Make yourself the bug and have people talking about your product. When people talk about your product then you can induce the viral effect. However, you must give people a reason to talk about you, and being like everyone else is not one. ..

57. Do your research and find expensive niches to tap into. A good way to do this is to find how expensive someone is paying for a keyword on a PPC search engine. If you can sell items that are more expensive more often then it is a quicker way to get rich.

58. Become an active respected member of niche related forums. You can do this by offering quality posts. Hint, it is not the number of posts you make, it is the quality. Remember, quality or quantity. Many useless or negative posts will have people looking at you funny. .

59. Test, test, test. Your flushing money down the toilet if your not testing to see what campaigns are bringing you in the most money compared to which ones are costing you money. When you test, you can eliminate the campaigns that are costing you dollars so that you can properly maximize your marketing efforts. Without proper testing, you are pretty much lost and can’t improve. You can only guess to what has or what is working. With proper testing, you do not guess, you know.

60. Stay up to date on what is going on in the world, you can monetize off hot topic trends.

61. Network, when you know more people you can find people that can help you get what you need.

62. Offer an affiliate program for your product or service. Make sure to let your satisfied customers know that you have one, if they like your product then they will be even more delighted to know that they will get money for referring you.

63. Write and give away a free ebook or report. It does not have to be long as long as its quality information neatly formatted and put together. You can also make a brand able ebook or report and allow affiliates the opportunity to brand their affiliate links in there to pass on to the next individual. You can then send this ebook to your subscribers or submit it to ebook directories. ..

64. Add viral components to your blog such as social book marking options, and a refer a friend option.

65. Be funny, people like something that will make them laugh and they will spread it for you if it is a genius idea.

66. Syndicate your content by using an RSS feeds on your website.

67. Answer people’s questions on Yahoo! answers with a link to your website in the sources area.

68. Put a link in the “about me” section of your eBay profile.

69. Make and upload a viral video to you tube. Use appropriate keywords in the video description for your target audience.

70. Record an informative podcast and submit them to poplar podcast directories.

71. Provide helpful answers for Google adsense on their help forum with a link back to your website. Go here to check it out: http://groups.google.com/group/adsense-help

72. Get people to comment and add content to your site. When they do this, they will provide you unique content, no need to pay for ghostwritten articles.

73. If you cannot get JVs, then try to bribe webmasters for sponsored advertising space on their newsletters.

74. Include a media section on your website so that you will give the media an easy way to stay up to date on what your company is doing.

75. Try to teach a class at your local community college or university. The more exposure you get in the public, the more credibility you will receive.

76. Make a screensaver and make it easy for individuals in your niche to download it. Have eye candy graphics combined with your company logo to brand yourself.

77. Write something controversial and spread it freely to your target market. It can be something as idiotic as the Da Vinci code, but as long people talk about it, its a successful campaign. A few hints, something controversial is something that goes against established beliefs in your market.

78. Write and publish a book. Having your own book is a quick way to gain credibility.

79. Take a guru in your niche out to lunch, and pay for it.

80. Start an organization or club about something. This can be done online through Yahoo! or Google groups.

81. Volunteer. Donate your time to a good clause…you can always network with people and form connections at the same time.

82. Get involved in your community and try to run some type of outreach program.

83. Offer good customer service, you may be surprised on how many referrals you get just be having a reliable one.

84. Consider adding a direct mail marketing campaign to your marketing ****nal.

85. Put an ad in your local yellow pages to get some local customers. Yellow pages tend to be more successful then newspaper ads because individuals are looking for a particular service when they are browsing through the yellow pages as opposed to newspapers.

86. Post bulletins in your local supermarket. However, since not everyone may carry a pen or pencil, place your contact information and url on strips on the bottom so that individuals can rip it off and take it with them.

87. Host your own commercial so you can put “as seen on TV” on your products.

88. Conduct surveys and publish them. These make you appear as an expert in your field of study.

89. Break a record or shoot to be in the Guinness world records for something.

90. Make a sitemap for your website.

91. Use a favicon for your site.

92. Make your visitors more involved in your website. You can help accomplish this by adding CGI scripts to your site.

93. Make sure you have no broken links on your site, and make sure that your website shows clearly in all browsers.

94. Find domain names that get traffic, purchase them, and have them redirect to your website.

95. Spell correctly whenever using keywords in writing.

96. Look at sites related to your niche to try to figure out how they get their traffic.

97. Properly optimize your website for the right keywords.

98. Try to avoid java scripts on your website as much as possible.

99. Do not use frames on your website.

100. If your website becomes popular and starts getting lots of traffic, try switching to a dedicated server. The longer you site is down equals the more lost visitors you will have

Optimizing Graphics

Guide to Optimizing Graphics
________________________________________
Reducing the size of graphics images is a great way to increase the overall friendliness of a Web page. A page with well-optimized graphics is friendlier in at least three respects:
• Bandwidth-friendly (smaller images = less traffic across the Internet)
• Server-friendly (smaller images = less work for the server to transmit)
• Reader-friendly (smaller images = pages load more quickly)

Depending on the image(s) involved and the techniques used, it's really fairly easy to reduce the size of graphics files by at least 50% without perceptibly affecting image quality. Savings of 75% and more are not uncommon.

There are actually already several good references already on the Web about optimizing graphics. So why is ATW slapping up another one? Because most of the existing references on graphics optimization are either:

• So highly technical as to be nearly incomprehensible
• Centered on very expensive, high-end image editing software
• (E) All of the above

It's possible to understand the basic "how-to" of graphics optimization without getting bogged down in extended discussions of "dithering" and "adaptive color palettes." And it's possible to optimize graphics without investing hundreds of dollars in high-end image-editing software.

Understanding Image Formats
The vast majority of images on the Web come in two flavors: JPEG and GIF. Both of these formats are self-compressing, and both are platform-independent, which makes them ideal for exchanging images between Web clients and servers.
So Which Format Is Better?
It's inevitable.
As soon as the discussion turns to graphics file formats, a partisan supporter of one or another format pipes up and starts talking about why JPEG is better than GIF (or vice-versa). Someone from the opposing camp takes offense, and the war begins.
The correct answer is: (E) None of the above
When it comes to selecting a file format for graphics, there's just no easy, universally true answer that's correct 100% of the time.

Try the image in both formats, and select the one that provides the smallest image without significantly compromising image quality.
Selecting Software

Many software tools allow you to optimize graphics for size. Certainly, high-end image-editing packages such as CorelDraw and Adobe Photoshop enable you to exert considerable influence over the size of a graphic image file. If you already have and use a high-end image-editing tool, then by all means, exploit its capabilities.
However, using such high-end tools just for basic image optimization is very much a piano-for-a-paperweight proposition. Simpler, less expensive tools perform the task just as well, for little or no cost.

For MS-Windows, shareware programs like L-View Pro and Graphics Workshop accomplish the task very nicely. In the world of X-Windows (such as Unixes and OS/2), the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a fine tool. (Similar packages no doubt exist for other computer platforms, as well.

Suggestions are welcome.) A software-specific tutorial on image optimization is obviously far beyond the scope of this article; suffice it to say that the techniques described here work equally well in all these packages.

Optimizing JPEGs

Optimizing JPEGs

One of the handiest things about JPEGs is that they allow you to control how hard the image gets hammered during compression. The quickest way to optimize a JPEG image is to increase the compression on the file. Given the nature of JPEGs, however, you can also brutalize the quality of an image by compressing it too harshly.

If you're trying to optimize a JPEG, experiment with different compression ratios. Typically, programs will talk about JPEG compression as "high/medium/low," or else as a percentage value. Unhappily, with some programs that use percentages, increasing the percentage value actually decreases compression, whereas with other programs, exactly the opposite is true. Make a copy of the original image to experiment on, and start exploring.

As you increase JPEG compression, many images will suffer unacceptable losses in display quality. Increase compression gradually (in increments of, say, 10%), until you find that image is truly suffering, then ease back up a bit. Again, this is an instance where no hard-and-fast rules exist. You simply have to experiment until you achieve an optimal balance of compression and image quality.
(Hint: Your eye is almost certainly more critical than your readers' -- be a little bit brutal.)
Unlike JPEGs, GIFs do not allow you to control compression directly. But happily, a GIF can adjust its size automatically to fit into the smallest possible space, given a specific number of colors in an image. The process of rendering an image in fewer colors is sometimes referred to as "reducing color depth" or "palette optimization."

Once the topic turns to color depth, most discussions of graphics optimization switch from English to GeekSpeak. Happily, all the technoid jargon can be distilled down to one axiom:
Fewer colors are better than more colors.

There's a lot of wasted space in most GIF images. This waste is caused by the "assumptions" that GIFs make about the number of unique colors contained in an image. By default, GIFs assume that an image has 256 unique colors. But many images (especially buttons, bullets, and the like) don't use more than a handful of unique colors. Many more images look just as good when rendered with fewer colors.

When you force a GIF to render with a smaller number of colors, the overall size of the graphic is automatically reduced.
Sort of. For reasons that are highly technoid (and really, really boring), optimization through color depth requires you to reduce the number of colors in the image to the next lowest factor of two.
So, for example, dropping a GIF from 256 colors to 129 colors won't shrink the size of the image file at all. But dropping it from 129 colors to 128 will almost always yield impressive savings in file size.

If you know why this is true, then the explanation is unnecessary. If you're not sure why it's true, then the explanation is unimportant. Just understand that size savings are achieved at 16, 32, 64, or 128 colors. (Going below 16 colors is not recommended, for reasons discussed in more detail below.)

Once you determine how to reduce color depth using your software package of choice, begin to experiment with the image. Explore options for color, dithering, etc. until you find an optimal balance of color depth and image appearance. (Note: In general, "dithered" images do not optimize as well as non-dithered images.)

Use the smallest number of colors that render the image acceptably, without compromising its quality. When you save the file in a GIF format, the image will automatically be reduced to the smallest possible size for the color palette you've selected.

AdSense on your blog!

Placing Adsense on your blog is easy. A simple copy and paste action and you’ve setup your website to make money. However, you need to know when to place Adsense ads and where to place them and how to place them. This is what divides the successful Adsense website builders from the not-so-successful Adsense website builders. You need to use Adsense cleverly on your website.

Here are my findings you can use which has worked well for me to increase your Adsense income.

There has been a lot of discussion of people throwing-up when they see Adsense on a blog. They see the blog as a vehicle to earn income from Adsense and the blog itself has no value. After seeing some awful blogs.

What you need to do is place Adsense on your blog which blends with your website. Take away those borders and change the colors. Make it look as though it is part of your website. This will lessen the preconceived notion others have with Adsense blogs

Next, you need to post regularly to your blog. I have to admit that regularly means daily. I have tests that show missing a day or two with blogging, generally affects the traffic to your blog. So get some postings ready for times when you are busy.

With good daily updated content on your blog, people will not mind that your blog has Adsense on them. You have to understand that people are looking for information. If you give them what they want, they will return and click on some Adsense ads which are of interest to them in time.
Daily blogging with good content will make people forget your blog is built for Adsense income. They will appreciate that you are making money since you are spending so much time offering them content.

I find that using horizontal Adsense ads are very effective. These are called leaderboards which span across the website. I normally place these at the top of the website so that my regular readers will see them first thing when they visit.

I also find that ad links are very effective. These are Adsense ads that only show the category of ads and have no description. They look like menu bars. People need to click on the ad link, see a list of related Adsense and click on them again before you are paid.

Though it requires 2 clicks to generate Adsense income for you, I find that this sort of ad is very effective. The good thing is Google does not count ad links towards the number of Adsense ads you can have on your website (which is 3 by the way).

Next, if you’re writing a post on your blog, make sure that you place Adsense right after you mention an interesting point. It could be the revealing of a finding or some breaking news with your niche.

The reason is that people are drawn to your content at that moment and seeing related Adsense ads beside it will help the click thru rate.

For your last Adsense ad, I would suggest placing it on the left hand side of your blog. Preferably you will have a sign up box for a newsletter or mini-course there, and place your Adsense under it

We humans read from left to right and from top to bottom. The top left portion of your blog is viewed the most when they visit your blog. Make use of this space.

Use these suggestions to place your ads and increase the Adsense clicks. They have worked for me. I suggest you test out a lot of these and see for yourself.

There are many membership sites that sell Adsense templates that has good website content.step by step training and webhosting which you can start to use immediately for your Adsense business. Many of these are optimized with Adsense already so it will save you a lot of work. Learn how the templaes are structured and take action on your own blogs or websites.
